MAS consults on AI risk management guidelines for all financial institutions

Rule changeFinanceSGReported

The Monetary Authority of Singapore proposed Guidelines on AI Risk Management covering all financial institutions, including generative AI and AI agents. Firms would keep AI inventories, rate each use case's risk materiality by impact, complexity and reliance, and apply proportionate lifecycle controls, with boards accountable; comments closed 31 January 2026 and a 12-month transition is proposed after final issuance.

Why it matters

It is among the first supervisory AI rulebooks to explicitly cover agentic AI across banks, insurers and asset managers, and a likely template for other Asian regulators.
