HKMA picks 27 use cases from 20 banks for second GenAI sandbox cohort

ProgrammeFinanceHKConfirmed

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority, with Cyberport, selected 27 generative-AI use cases from 20 banks and 14 technology partners out of more than 60 proposals. The cohort focuses on 'AI vs AI' quality checks of model outputs and on adversarial testing of defences against deepfake fraud, with trials starting in early 2026 on Cyberport's AI Supercomputing Centre.

Why it matters

It shows a central bank using supervised sandboxes, rather than new rules, to shape how banks deploy GenAI and counter deepfake fraud.
