EU pushes AI Act duties for hiring and workplace AI back to December 2027

Rule changeWorkGovernmentEUConfirmed

Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, the Digital Omnibus on AI, was signed on 8 July and published on 24 July 2026. It moves the start of obligations for Annex III high-risk systems, which include AI used for recruitment, promotion, task allocation, monitoring and termination, from 2 August 2026 to 2 December 2027, citing late standards, and softens the general AI-literacy duty on providers and deployers.

Why it matters

Employers and HR-tech vendors selling into the EU get 16 extra months before conformity, oversight and logging duties for workplace AI apply.
