OpenAI signs 6GW AMD GPU deal and gets warrant for up to 160m AMD shares

DealComputeFrontierUSConfirmed

OpenAI agreed to deploy 6GW of AMD Instinct GPUs over several generations, starting with 1GW of MI450 chips from the second half of 2026. AMD issued OpenAI a warrant for up to 160 million AMD shares that vests in tranches as deployments scale and as AMD's share price and other milestones are hit; it followed OpenAI's 10GW letter of intent with NVIDIA in September 2025.

Why it matters

It gave OpenAI a second large GPU supplier and showed compute deals being paid for partly in supplier equity, a circular financing pattern that investors now scrutinise.
