UK publishes AI for Science Strategy with 15 actions and up to £137m

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology set out 15 actions to build AI-driven science capability and keep UK research competitive, covering compute access, interdisciplinary teams, autonomous laboratories and AI science tools. It directs up to £137 million of the £2 billion committed for 2026-2030 under the AI Opportunities Action Plan.

Why it matters

It is the UK's dedicated funding line for AI-enabled research, a smaller counterpart to the US Genesis Mission.
