Bessent and Powell summon bank CEOs over Anthropic Mythos cyber risk

StatementFinanceFrontierUS GB INTLReported

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Fed Chair Jerome Powell met chief executives of Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and others at Treasury on 7 April, as reported by Reuters on 9-10 April, to discuss cyber risks from Anthropic's Mythos model, which can find and exploit software vulnerabilities. Treasury said the meeting was meant to initiate a coordinated approach and that it would lead more such meetings; in May, Anthropic was preparing to brief Financial Stability Board members after a request from FSB chair and Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey.

Why it matters

A single frontier model release prompted a coordinated response from US financial authorities and the FSB, putting AI cyber capability on the systemic-risk agenda.
