UK says 38 of 50 AI Opportunities Action Plan commitments met; Lanarkshire named AI Growth Zone days later

ReportGovernmentComputeGBConfirmed

DSIT's 'One Year On' report and dashboard, published 29 January 2026, said the government had met its commitments on 38 of the plan's 50 actions since January 2025. On 3 February Lanarkshire in Scotland was named an AI Growth Zone, joining Oxfordshire, the North East, North Wales and South Wales, with the government citing more than 3,400 jobs.

Why it matters

The UK is betting on compute, planning fast-tracks and public-sector adoption rather than an AI statute, and AI Growth Zones are where that bet becomes physical capacity.
