SAG-AFTRA ratifies four-year studio deal restricting synthetic performers

DealWorkInformationUSReported

SAG-AFTRA members approved the 2026 TV/Theatrical contracts with the AMPTP by 91.42% on a 19.25% turnout, covering 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2030. Producers may use a synthetic performer only where it adds significant value beyond hiring an actor or using their digital replica, and an arbitration clause confines uses of AI replicas to narrow cases; it follows a four-year Writers Guild deal ratified on 24 April 2026.

Why it matters

Hollywood's main unions have locked in AI consent and use limits until 2030, as workers in other sectors push for their own AI protections.
