Huawei sets yearly Ascend AI-chip roadmap and 8,192-chip Atlas 950 SuperPoD

LaunchComputeCNReported

At Huawei Connect in Shanghai, Huawei laid out an annual cadence of Ascend accelerators (950 in 2026, 960 in 2027, 970 in 2028) and announced the Atlas 950 SuperPoD, linking 8,192 Ascend chips per node from Q4 2026, with superclusters of more than 500,000 chips; the Atlas 960 (2027) would take 15,488 chips per node. Huawei claimed the Atlas 950 will out-compute NVIDIA's planned Vera Rubin NVL144, a claim not independently tested.

Why it matters

It is China's main domestic answer to US export controls, betting on very large clusters of weaker chips to close the per-chip gap.
